My Future of Work & Life in 2020

If you don’t know me yet, my name is Robert Kropp and I am a digital nomad and remote worker as a writer and web developer. I have been traveling for a little over 3 years, worked out of over 100 coworking and shared workspaces, explored dozens of cities in new countries, met countless people, and even got married to one of them.

I wouldn’t have changed a moment of it. Yes, there were challenges and moments that I wish I didn’t need to endure, however, just having the ability right now to choose my own path is incredibly important to me.

In 2019, I spent time primarily in Europe between England, Germany, and Spain. I got married :), moved to a new country, and spent the holidays outside of the United States for the first time.

For New Year’s Eve, I spent it with my wife and her family in a small village between Cologne and Frankfurt, Germany.

We ate.

We drank.

We watched the fireworks at midnight from all across the mountains.

It was a wonderful day!

What I have found is that these moments are often all I need and much of what I was looking for when I first started traveling and working in coworking spaces around the world.

My journey has always been about finding a place in this world, figuring out who I really was, and finding out what I was capable of.

After a wonderful holidays, it is time to get back to what’s next for this new year.

Today, I write a lot about the future of work. However, I don’t write much about the future of my work. When did future of work discussions become so meta and less targeted?

My specific plans for 2020:

I want to stay in the moment today but I need to make sure that I am still moving toward my broader goals.

  1. Work and life balance
    1. We only get one life so don’t waste it.
  2. Work
    1. Catch up on article pipeline from 2019.
    2. Launch and grow new web service (To be announced in the coming weeks)
    3. Have a discussion monthly with new contacts and leaders from across the globe
    4. Write and publish twice a month across all outlets where I write.
    5. Shift cowork22.com to robertkropp.com – I have been debating about this shift for a little while feel like it makes sense for what I want to do into the future.
  3. Skills
    1. Conversational in Spanish and A2 level in German
    2. Improve communication and a few other soft skills
  4. Physical and Mental
    1. Workout 3 times a week
    2. Record and review mental struggles.
    3. Determine what activity (Yoga, stretching, meditation) is best for relaxing my mind and body after stressful days

Our journeys will always end up somewhere and we don’t always know where.

All we can do is choose a few specific goals and focus on incremental improvement towards them. The rest will just work themselves out.

How about you? Do you have a plan for 2020?
